<p>A new blockchain-based content regulation is being implemented by Google for Android apps available on the Google Play Store. The updated policy, which goes into effect on 7 December 2023, includes provisions for cryptocurrency exchanges and software wallets, transparency standards, and guidelines for NFT gamification that would apply to games like loot boxes.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The purchase, holding, or exchange of cryptocurrencies needs to be conducted through certified services in regulated jurisdictions, according to the new rules. Moreover, cryptocurrency exchanges and software wallets must adhere to applicable legislation in the countries Google is going to target. The tech giant further said that it may ask developers for more information to demonstrate their adherence to laws or regulations.</p>

<h3>Developers may not promote any potential earning from trading&nbsp;</h3>

<p>According to Google, all apps that allow users to buy or earn tokenised digital assets must disclose their &nbsp;information on trading. In order to comply with this, developers may not promote or glamorise any potential earning from playing or trading activities.</p>

<p>Any gambling applications that incorporate digital assets like NFTs must go through a unique application process with Google. Money cannot be collected in exchange for a chance to obtain an NFT of unknown value, and NFTs cannot be used in wagers to try and win real-world money awards in apps that don't comply with Google's gambling app regulations.</p>

<h3>What's changed for the blockchain based apps?&nbsp;</h3>

<p>On-device crypto mining is also prohibited by the content policy, although this was already the case; it was merely shifted from Google's regulations on financial services.</p>

<p>For its corporate clients in Europe, JP Morgan, an American multinational financial services company, has launched its first blockchain transaction for its European clients with the help of its own token, called the JPM Coin transaction. On the JP Morgan permissioned blockchain, the large German-based conglomerate, Siemens AG, carried out the JPM Coin transaction with a payment in euros, confirmed the recent reports.</p>

<p>The Coin Services division of JP Morgan was initially introduced in 2019. The introduction of blockchain-based transfers between different client accounts occurred round-the-clock in comparison to &nbsp;conventional payment rails like wire transfers. Transactions on the ledger are not limited to business hours and can occur at any time.&nbsp;</p>

<h3>JPM Coin is designed for settling payments&nbsp;</h3>

<p>As mentioned above, a permissioned blockchain is a distributed ledger that is not publicly accessible. According to the information, JPM Coin is only made available to its institutional clients and is used exclusively for payment settlement.&nbsp;</p>

<p>On the growing concern of online content, Manish Maheshwari, the former head of Twitter India, says users should give decentralised apps (dApps) a fair chance in order to address the problems and difficulties associated with maintaining accounts and content safely online.&nbsp;<br />
DApps, a component of the Web3 ecosystem, are blockchain-based applications that claim to provide users total ownership and independence over the decisions affecting their content.</p>

<p>"Web3 platforms dramatically alter the threat landscape. Traditional Web3 platforms store data centrally, and thus they attract hackers' attention. <p>The Digital Data Protection Bill 2022 was released for public consideration by the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology on 18 November.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Experts claim that this new bill performed better than its predecessor in terms of removing restrictions and ease of implementation.&nbsp;</p>

<p>On the introduction of the bill, Crypto Legal, a Bangalore-based Legal, Regulatory, and Policy Advisory for Blockchain Companies, published a paper on 12 December to emphasise on the current bill’s effectiveness . &nbsp;</p>

<h3>Paper focuses on ‘data fiduciary,' 'data anonymization,' 'right to erasure’</h3>

<p>After the announcement, Crypto Legal released a paper in December which highlighted how the bill will affect the blockchain industry. It was written by Purshottam Anand, the founder of Crypto Legal, Anshuman Singh, who oversees research and policy, and Sharat Chandra, vice president of Earthid, a platform for decentralised identities.</p>

<p>The published paper emphasised tech neutrality, specific blockchain issues, and key areas of the bill that have an impact on the blockchain. The researchers focused on "data fiduciary,' 'data anonymization,' 'right to erasure," and "international transfers" in their research.&nbsp;</p>

<h3>Current bill is ineffective in many ways, stated&nbsp;researchers&nbsp;</h3>

<p>Concerning data fiduciary, the authors of this paper noted that the current bill is unable to focus on the issues encountered by blockchain technology. A data fiduciary is someone who chooses how and why personal data is processed. The paper further focused on the problems faced by blockchain to offer an individual or group of people to get control of data, as it's based on decentralised technology.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“This creates a problem for the bill, which calls for the identification of a data fiduciary to be responsible for the data. It may be difficult to enforce the bill's provisions without a clear data fiduciary,” said the report.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In the aforementioned issues, the authors stressed the requirement for data protection on the blockchain. They added that the bill does not provide enough guidance on the use of anonymization, pseudonymization, and encryption which are important for ensuring data security on the blockchain.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The authors stated, "To support the point concerning international transfers, the current bill does not effectively address them." They further stated, "Since blockchains are jurisdiction-free, securing international transfers through trusted channels and abiding by crucial disclosure rules becomes a priority."&nbsp;</p>

<p>With the introduction of ERC-4804, Web3 URLs have been made available on Ethereum, enabling users to access Ethereum apps and nonfungible tokens (NFTs) without being concerned about centralised censorship.</p>

<p>On February 14, 2022, the new Ethereum standard, named "Web3 URL to EVM Call Message Translation," was first put forth. It was co-authored by Qi Zhou, the creator of ETHStorage, Sam Wilson, and Chao Pi.</p>

<p>In order to directly access on-chain Web3 content, such as decentralised applications (DApps) front ends and NFTs, the plan was defined as a "HTTP-style" URL. ERC-4804 was authorised and published on the mainnet on March 1 more than a year later.</p>

<p>If the content of the website is stored on the Ethereum blockchain or a compatible layer-2 protocol, then it is potentially possible to access the entire website using these methods. Qi Zhou, the creator of ETHStorage, claims that the expenses of doing this are still very high.</p>

<p>In a recent presentation at ETHDenver, Zhou stated, "The critical issue here is that the cost of storage on Ethereum is super, super expensive on mainnet."</p>

<p>"One gigabyte of on-chain data, for instance, will cost about $10 million. [...] Zhou continued, "That is unacceptable for many Web2 applications and even many NFTs. Layer-2 storage solutions might help offset some of the expenses.</p>

<p>Xiang suggested that the new URL standard only makes sense for particular uses given the costs.&nbsp;</p>
