Adobe unveils world's first generative AI model for vector graphics creation
Adobe Illustrator introduces the world's first generative AI model for vector graphics, empowering designers with new creative possibilities and convenience.

Highlights
- Adobe Illustrator introduces a groundbreaking AI model, the Illustrator Firefly, for generating vector graphics from scratch
- Designers can craft complete scenes using text prompts, simplifying the creative process
Adobe is set to make a significant leap into the generative AI era with the launch of its innovative Firefly Vector Model at the MAX conference. This new model, described as the "world's first generative AI model focused on producing vector graphics," opens up exciting possibilities for graphic artists and designers.
Similar to Adobe's Firefly for images and photos, the Firefly for Illustrator is designed to craft complete vector graphics entirely from scratch. What's even more impressive is that this vector model has been trained on data sourced from Adobe Stock, making it a powerful tool for creative professionals.

Creating vector graphics with text prompts
One standout feature in Illustrator's beta version is the ability to generate entire scenes through a simple text prompt. These scenes can comprise multiple objects, going beyond just a chaotic assemblage of vectors.
Illustrator can now automatically generate distinct objects within the scene, each of which can be individually manipulated as if they were separate layers or groups.
This enhances the freedom and creativity of designers. According to Alexandru Costin, Adobe's VP for generative AI and Sensei, the development of this capability involved the use of tens of millions of vector images from Adobe Stock.
Creating generative AI for vector drawings was a substantial undertaking, as it involved producing images with the fewest possible points while maintaining quality.
Introducing Mockup, Retype, and Web Availability
Adobe Illustrator also introduces several other noteworthy features. 'Mockup' is a powerful tool that enables users to apply vector art to 3D scenes. For instance, you can design the label for a drink can or visualise a new logo on a t-shirt.
This feature is particularly beneficial for freelancers, as it allows them to present their artwork in a context that helps clients understand the final product.
“Mockup is really exciting to show your customers the art in context so they understand what they’re buying when they contract you as a freelancer,”
'Retype' is another remarkable addition that can convert static text within images into editable text. It even identifies matching fonts, streamlining the editing process for designers.
In a move towards accessibility, Illustrator is now available on the web. This online version offers users the convenience of working within a web browser, making it more accessible to a wider range of individuals and professionals.
Adobe's ongoing commitment to enhancing Illustrator with generative AI tools and user-friendly features is poised to transform the world of vector graphics, offering artists and designers innovative and time-saving options for their creative projects.
