Adobe teases groundbreaking AI photo editing tool set to transform its product
Project Stardust has a cool feature that can spot and play around with stuff in pictures all by itself. It’s like a Magic Editor, but made by Abode.

Highlights
- Adobe to launch new AI-driven photo editing tool
- Adobe photo editing tool ‘Project Stardust’ features object aware editing engine
- Project Stardust, will be revealed at Adobe Max, commencing on 10 October
Adobe is gearing up to introduce a groundbreaking AI-driven photo editing tool, Project Stardust, at the upcoming Adobe Max event. This innovative tool aims to simplify image manipulation for users without advanced editing skills.
Project Stardust features an ‘object-aware editing engine’ that can automatically identify objects within regular photos. This makes it effortless to move and modify these objects within the image. Much like Google's Magic Editor for Pixel phones, Adobe's tool promises to be even more potent.
#AdobeMAX is back, and this year we're going bigger than ever.

From the Bash donut wall 🍩 to incredible Sneaks of new innovations 👀 to meeting amazing artists 🤝 there's a lot to be excited about at #AdobeMAX this year! What are you looking forward to? https://t.co/4ohTYAL6lZ pic.twitter.com/PZctog0hnL
In a demonstration, the software automatically selected objects, such as a yellow suitcase and its shadow, as if they had been outlined using Photoshop's lasso tool. Users can then seamlessly manipulate these objects, relocating, deleting, or altering them as if they exist on separate layers. The tool intelligently fills in the background behind the modified objects to maintain a coherent image.
Contextual task bar for effortless editing
Project Stardust also incorporates a ‘Contextual Task Bar,’ introduced in Adobe Photoshop earlier this year. This feature can recognise the next steps in the design process, simplifying quick edits. For example, selecting a blurred crowd in the background prompts a ‘remove distractors’ button to appear, facilitating the removal of the crowd with a single click.
Generative AI capabilities
This editing engine harnesses generative AI, similar to Adobe's Firefly-powered Photoshop tools. Users can select areas of a photograph and input instructions through a floating taskbar prompt. In one instance, AI-generated flowers fill the selected space, while in another, items of clothing on a model are replaced with new pieces, following user input.
Canva and Google Photos’ Magic Editor for Pixel 8 devices offer similar features. However, Project Stardust’s capabilities extend far beyond what has been teased so far, promising a revolution in user interactions with Adobe products.
Stay tuned for Adobe Max
More information about Adobe’s new AI release, including Project Stardust, will be revealed at Adobe Max, commencing 10 October. This event promises to showcase how Adobe continues to innovate and enhance its creative software offerings.
