Meta AI, a conversational AI assistant, is now available on WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, and soon on Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses and Quest 3. Powered by advanced technology and real-time information from Bing, it offers real-time responses and even aids in image generation within text-based chats.
At Meta's recent Connect event, the company unveiled exciting AI image editing and sticker-creation features for Instagram, promising enhanced creativity and expression for users.
New AI editing tools, ‘Restyle’ and ‘Backdrop’
'Restyle' is a tool that acts as a potent generative AI filter. By providing descriptors or specific detailed prompts, such as ‘watercolour’ or ‘collage’ from magazines and newspapers,’ users can alter their current photographs into a variety of artistic styles. This function broadens the scope of photo customisation.
Backdrop
Meta also introduced ‘Backdrop,’ a generative AI-powered green screen feature. Users can simply input prompts like ‘place me in front of Mount Everest,’ and the tool will seamlessly apply the relevant background to their images.
Meta will introduce its AI Chatbot on WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger.

While Meta hasn't specified a release date, it assures users that restyle and backdrop will be available ‘soon.’
AI-generated stickers for enhanced chatting
By offering AI-generated stickers, which will be available on Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, and Facebook Stories, Meta hopes to improve chat interactions. Using text prompts, users may quickly make unique stickers for their chats and stories.
Over the course of the upcoming month, these stickers will be made available to a small number of English-speaking Meta app users.
Labels for AI-generated content
Posts created using the backdrop and restyle features will come with labels indicating their AI origin, reducing the likelihood of viewers mistaking them for human-generated content. Meta hasn't revealed the exact appearance of these labels, but the information will be displayed on the screens with an ‘image generated by Meta AI.’
AI Studio: Building AI for All
AI Studio, a platform that enables the creation of AI entities, was introduced by Meta. This tool will soon be available to both programmers and non-programmers, enabling users to create external AI’s for Meta's messaging services.
Additionally, companies can develop AI’s that are consistent with their company values to improve customer service.
Creators' AI and a Sandbox
Creators will have the opportunity to build AIs that extend their virtual presence across Meta's apps. These AIs will be under their direct control and align with their creative vision.
Additionally, Meta plans to release a sandbox for experimenting with AI creation, fostering innovation and expanding the AI universe.
Quest 3: Now on Sale
Meta unveiled the Quest 3, a mixed-reality headset that blends the virtual and real worlds. Unlike its predecessor, the Quest 2, this device offers an immersive mixed-reality experience, allowing wearers to interact with their surroundings while wearing the headset.
The Quest 3 starts at $499.99, is available for pre-orders, and will begin shipping on 10 October.
Meta's commitment to integrating AI into its products promises exciting possibilities for enhanced creativity, connectivity, and experiences across its ecosystem. With new AI features for Instagram and an innovative headset in the Quest 3, Meta continues to push boundaries in the tech world.
