WhatsApp expanding security measures

WhatsApp highlighted the development of the 'protect IP address in call' feature in WhatsApp's beta updates for Android 2.23.18.15 and iOS 23.20.1.73. This feature is designed to provide an additional layer of security during calls by safeguarding users' IP addresses and locations from potential threats.

How does it work?

This new privacy feature operates by routing your calls through WhatsApp servers. While it enhances security, it's essential to note that it may slightly affect the call quality, as per the toggle description.

However, the feature ensures that your conversations remain shielded by end-to-end encryption, meaning not even WhatsApp can listen in on your calls.

To enable this added layer of protection, users can find the 'Protect IP address in calls' option in a new 'Advanced' subsection within the 'Privacy' settings. As of now, the feature is available in the latest WhatsApp beta versions for Android and iOS.

When will it be available?

Currently, the 'Protect IP address' toggle might only be visible to select users in the beta version. However, WhatsApp plans to make this feature accessible to all users in the future. The exact release date for the stable version remains unconfirmed, but it's a clear indication of WhatsApp's commitment to user privacy.
