In this Metaverse domain, fans can personalise their own avatars with chic costumes and emojis, and take pictures with the avatars of their favourite members, Jennie, Lisa, Jisoo, and Rose.
In addition, players can level up their in-game possessions by using a ‘lightstick’ tool to shatter crystals, mirroring the glow stick tradition at concerts. The Palace will receive regular updates throughout the year, incorporating challenges that grant players Robux, Roblox's in-game currency.
Launch & excitement
The Blackpink-themed Roblox environment, created by the British company Karta, will debut on 25 August 2023. Within the first 24 hours, early visitors will receive a special badge for their Roblox profiles.
"We look forward to welcoming fans from all over the world to a beautiful virtual palace where they can party, connect, and experience everything Blackpink beyond the constraints of time and space."
Blackpink, the best Metaverse performer
At the 2022 MTV VMAs, Blackpink received the first-ever ‘Best Metaverse Performance’ honour for their work with the battle royale shooter PUBG Mobile. The company has also worked with the South-Korean Metaverse platform Zepeto, whose ZTX platform on the Ethereum scaling network Arbitrum is moving into the NFT space.
K-pop's Metaverse influence: A growing trend
The K-pop phenomenon is seamlessly integrating into the Metaverse landscape, especially following prominent virtual concerts amid the pandemic. Renowned groups like BTS and Twice engaged a worldwide online audience through such concerts, even performing within popular games like Minecraft and Fortnite. This trend is supported by the South Korean government's substantial investment of $170 million in Metaverse advancements during 2022.
Blackpink's collaboration with Roblox continues the trend of K-pop's growing presence in the Metaverse. With virtual avatars, interactive experiences, and virtual concerts, the Metaverse offers a new dimension for K-pop enthusiasts to connect and celebrate the music they love.
