WhatsApp to stop working on these Android devices soon: Check if your phone is on the list
Is your Android phone safe from WhatsApp's upcoming shutdown?

Highlights
- WhatsApp won't work on some older Android phones
- Users must update phones or lose WhatsApp
- Keep chatting by switching to a compatible device
WhatsApp, the popular messaging app, is known for its continuous efforts to enhance user experience, privacy, and security. To achieve this, regular updates and system improvements are a norm across all platforms, including Android, iOS, and the web.
These updates not only introduce new features but also address security vulnerabilities and adapt to newer operating systems. However, with the progression of technology, WhatsApp, like other tech companies, occasionally discontinues support for older or outdated operating systems to focus on innovation and security.
The announcement
In a recent announcement, WhatsApp declared that it will cease support for smartphones running on Android OS version 4.1 and older after 24 October. This move is part of WhatsApp's yearly assessment of devices and software that are no longer in widespread use, may lack necessary security updates, or lack the functionality required to run WhatsApp efficiently.

If you're unsure about your Android version, you can check it in your device's settings menu. Navigate to Settings > About phone > Software information. Your Android version will be listed under the Version category.
What happens if WhatsApp stops working
WhatsApp assures users that they will receive prior notifications and reminders within the app to upgrade their devices. If the device remains unupdated, WhatsApp will no longer function, rendering users unable to send/receive messages, make/receive calls, or use any other WhatsApp features.
Devices supported by WhatsApp
After October 24, WhatsApp will continue to support the following devices: Android OS version 5.0 and newer iPhone running iOS 12 and newer KaiOS 2.5.0 and newer, including JioPhone and JioPhone 2 Additionally, WhatsApp requires users to have a phone number capable of receiving SMS or calls for account verification. Devices with only Wi-Fi access are not eligible for new account creation.
WhatsApp's decision to end support for older Android devices running on outdated operating systems is a step towards ensuring a secure and seamless experience for its users. If you own one of the mentioned devices, it's time to consider an upgrade to a newer model to continue enjoying WhatsApp's features and stay protected from potential security risks.
