  • Google to introduce an AI-powered writing & editing feature designed specifically for Chromebooks
  • Google’s project is linked to five codenames named Orca, Mako & Manta says reports
  • Manta is anticipated to send users' initial text & prompts to Google's servers

Google, the prominent tech giant, has introduced a variety of AI-driven tools, including an AI-powered capability for refining its image and video search results and an auto-generated advertisement feature based on prompts furnished by marketers.

Now, Google is further expanding its horizons by working on an AI-powered writing and editing feature designed specifically for Chromebooks (a laptop operates on a special Google-based OS called Chrome OS). This new tool aims to enhance the writing and editing experience on ChromeOS, making it more efficient and user-friendly.

According to reports from 9To5Google, Google's project has been linked with five codenames, with the primary three being ‘Orca,’ ‘Mako,’ and ‘Manta.’ When users engage in text editing on ChromeOS, the ‘Orca’ option will be conveniently available in the right-click menu. Upon selection, a distinct user interface (UI) known as ‘Mako’ will appear as a bubble overlay on the screen.

What are Mako's & Manta’s key tasks?

‘Mako’ is programmed to execute three key tasks. Firstly, it possesses the capability to request rewrites of specific text sections, likely those that have been initially revised by an AI.

Secondly, it offers a selection of preset text queries, essentially providing example prompts to guide users in requesting specific writing styles.

Lastly, Mako has the ability to seamlessly insert the revised text into its original location, ensuring a smooth continuation of the editing process.

On the other hand, ‘Manta’ is anticipated to send users' initial text and prompts to Google's servers. In return, the servers will generate an AI-enhanced version of the content, providing users with improved writing suggestions and edits.

Check out the futuristic plans of Google

In addition to the AI writing tool, reports also suggest that Google might introduce a new feature for Android devices similar to Apple's Continuity feature. This feature would make it possible for diverse Android devices to work together seamlessly, enabling features like ‘Call Switching,’ which lets users switch devices while on a call, and ‘Internet Sharing,’ which makes it possible to quickly set up personal hotspots across linked devices.

As Google continues to innovate and improve its software ecosystem, these upcoming features hold the promise of enhancing productivity and connectivity for users across the board. While specific release dates are yet to be confirmed, the potential advancements in AI writing tools and device connectivity mark an exciting direction for the tech giant.
