Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently showcased the company's latest creation, the Optimus Gen 2 robot. In a video shared by Musk, the robot displayed striking human-like features while engaging in activities such as squats and boiling eggs. The advancements from its predecessor, Optimus Gen 1, and the previous model, Bumblebee, are evident in the remarkable progress year over year.

AI-first approach

The Optimus Gen 2 is a part of Tesla's AI and robotics division, emphasising an AI-first approach. According to Tesla, the integration of artificial intelligence and dedicated inference hardware is crucial for achieving full self-driving capabilities in bipedal robotics.

The video reveals the Optimus Gen 2's improved balance and full-body control, enabling it to execute full-fledged squats. The robot has gained a boost in walk speed, incorporating torque sensing abilities and mirroring human foot geometry.

Additionally, the Optimus Gen 2 is now 10 kg lighter than its predecessor, i.e., the Optimus-Gen 1 showcasing a commitment to refining performance.
