On Monday, the Co-Founder of Microsoft, Bill Gates, expressed his take on AI disrupting search-engine and online shopping sites. He spoke about the technology race at an event titled 'AI Forward 2023’ in San Francisco hosted by Goldman Sachs Group Inc and SV Angel.
AI usage by industry players
It would disappoint him if Microsoft were not in the running, though there was a 50 percent chance the top player to emerge will be a startup, said Gates.
He further expressed, "You’ll never go to a search site again and never go to Amazon." Microsoft's founder also believed the future to be full of personal agents for all communications and queries, which may replace the need to go to Siri, Outlook, or Amazon.
The owner of the tech giant has also highlighted the role of industry players in building computer assistants. These computer assistants are designed by industry people who make use of AI and can be controlled by voice commands or text commands.
“So, the fact that Google owns search, Amazon owns shopping, Microsoft owns productivity, and Apple owns sort of everything on an Apple device, " he stated. Gates further said, "Once you have this personal agent, it sort of collapses those different markets into a Hey, I only want one personal agent, and of course, it can help me shop, plan, write documents, and work across my devices in this rich way."
ChatGPT needs more work, expressed Gates
According to Gates, AI technologies would be the most important thing in the coming ten years. He noted that the recent acceleration of generative AI shocked him. Gates is impressed by the capabilities of ChatGPT to comprehend human queries and further points out that more work needs to be done on the improvement of its precision and personalisation.
While talking about the dominance of AI on search engines, he also bets big on the advantages associated with AI technologies. But at the same time, Gates also mentioned that it's good how people are discussing the drawbacks linked with such emerging intelligence.
