OpenAI has announced the release of an official version of ChatGPT on iOS that lets customers access its well-known AI chatbot on the go. According to the company, the new ChatGPT app will be free to use, ad-free, and voice input enabled. The company says it will initially only be available to users in the United States at launch and has hinted that an Android version is on the way.
ChatGPT gets the first official mobile application on iOS
On May 18, according to a company statement, the Whisper speech recognition model from OpenAI was supported by the ChatGPT app’s voice input functionality, which syncs users’ chat histories with the web version.

OpenAI claims that the app is currently available for iOS users in the US and will expand into other countries too. Similar to its desktop equivalent, ChatGPT enables users to communicate with an AI chatbot to ask questions without performing a standard online search and to receive advice, discover inspiration, study, conduct research, and do other things.

Given the problems with Apple’s own voice assistant, Siri, and Apple’s own lack of advancement in AI, the latest update may encourage more users to adopt ChatGPT as their primary mobile assistant. Since Google now reaps the benefits of being the default search engine in Safari on Apple’s phone, the launch may also have an effect on Google.
How will the feature work?
When you use ChatGPT on a mobile device, the app will sync your history across devices, which means it will remember what you have previously looked up using its web interface and make that information available to you. Whisper, an open-source speech recognition engine from OpenAI, is also integrated into the app to provide voice input.
In addition to getting early access to new features and quicker reaction times, OpenAI claims ChatGPT Plus subscribers will be able to utilise GPT-4’s capabilities through the new application. The subscription service was introduced in February and costs $20 per month for the latest features, including ChatGPT access even during prime times.
