Andhra Pradesh CM urges for adopting AI in education curriculum, calls for integrating AR & VR in medical syllabus

According to the latest reports, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, emphasised the importance of AI, i.e., artificial intelligence, and called for adopting this new-age tech in the curriculum.

On 13 July, the CM, while addressing a meeting with senior officials of the Education Department and Vice-Chancellors of Universities at his Tadepalli office, urged the officers to aim at bringing key changes in both school education as well as higher education and utilise AI in educational curriculum.

He called for taking steps necessary to “fill the gap between our goals and achievements in the field of education” in the backdrop of the changes the world is experiencing. Reddy added that the world is now witnessing a fourth revolution in the form of AI and the country should make efforts to move along with the emerging technologies, unlike during the previous ones including steam engines, electricity, and computers, where the nation remained a follower without having a say in their creation.

Nation to harness the potential of AI

"We should be part of the fourth revolution, becoming its creators and not remain just its followers. If we take the right steps at the right time, we will become part of the emerging technologies. As AI grows, one section grows as its creators and another section follows it. We should become its creators," stated the CM.

He further mentioned that the VCs (Vice-Chancellors) play a significant role in higher education. They should adopt a two-pronged strategy by inculcating AI into the education system, with the goal to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of teaching methods and learning skills.

Further, augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) should also be made a part of the curriculum, while teaching methodology in medical education should be modified to integrate AI and robotics into the course curriculum.
