  • Quivr uses blockchain technology to enhance social credibility
  • It operates on Polygon network
  • Quivr has already been released on the Apple app store

On 27 June 2023, a web3 application called ‘Quivr’ was launched. It offers users the ability to demonstrate their social credibility through the utilisation of blockchain technology, as stated by the app's development team. With the help of Quivr, users have the opportunity to communicate and connect with others who share their interests, whether those interests be in music, gaming, reading, travelling, baking and other activities.

Quivr evaluates users' behaviour inside major apps like Spotify, Steam, and Apple Music to develop blockchain badges that validate their interests or membership in various groups. These badges are used to identify people who have similar interests.

How to connect through Quivr?

According to its creators, Quivr has already been released on the Apple app store, and in approximately two weeks, the Android and web versions will follow. The app is under beta testing, and during this phase, over 10,000 people have registered on the app.

Celebrities like Ross Butler, Fenix Games, Deadmau5, Kittyplays and Kio Cyr, as well as the University of Kansas are just a few of the organisations and celebrities with whom Quivr has reportedly built an initial set of collaborations to support community building through the app.

The latest version of Quivr can link to 11 different apps, including Spotify, LinkedIn, Steam, Twitter, Apple Music, Apple Health, Instagram, TikTok, Audius, and Canvas, says Ray Lee, the co-founder and CEO of Quivr.

Users can acquire badges on Quivr based on their activities within these applications, enabling them to showcase their identity through their actions. For instance, engaging with pop music on Spotify could earn a user a ‘pop fan’ badge, while playing adventure games on Steam could result in an 'adventurous gamer’ badge. These badges serve as the representations of users' interests and allow them to show their identity through their actions.

In scenarios where users wish to record a credential that cannot be proven using any of the integrated applications, they have the option to upload a video or image instead. These uploaded media files can then be reviewed by community validators, serving as an alternative means of providing evidence.

Web3 app creators foraying into the social media landscape

Lee stated that users can locate and speak with others who have shown interest by browsing each other's profiles and sending private messages on Quivr. There are only private communications accessible in the current edition. However, the team is experimenting with the concept of developing ‘community and subgroups around conversations in the future.

Quivr operates on Polygon network. However, it does not, however, require users to download a separate wallet or copy and store seed words (the single most important layer of security for crypto users). Instead, it uses the Magic SDK for logins, a form of innovative wallet technology that does not require seed words.

Fierce competition among social media apps

The competition among web app developers to gain a share of the highly profitable social media and influencer market remains fierce. Recently, Subsocial, a chat app built on the Polkadot blockchain, introduced Ethereum virtual machine compatibility on 8 June 2023. This integration enables users to leverage the functionalities of the Ethereum network within the Subsocial platform.

Additionally, on 26 April 2023, Lens network, which is based on Polygon, introduced a novel ‘layer 3’ scaling solution. This innovative solution enhances the speed of post sharing on the network, offering users a faster and more efficient experience.

While it is true that none of these apps have currently posed a significant challenge to established platforms like Facebook and Twitter, there is a belief among web3 experts that social applications could be the breakthrough use case that popularises blockchain technology among the public.
