Samsung has announced a new "Temporary Cloud Backup" feature for users to make it easier for them to back up their phone data.

Here's what's on offer

Samsung's Temporary Cloud Backup allows users to store files with sizes capped at 100GB. But, the data will remain in the cloud for only up to 30 days. This feature is available for users operating Samsung devices running One UI 6. 0 or higher, and Samsung says the new feature has been designed to provide peace of mind when it comes to securing important files temporarily, especially during scenarios like phone repairs.

The primary objective behind this new free storage plan is to offer users a secure place to store essential data without the fear of data loss. When a device requires servicing or replacement, this feature becomes a valuable asset.

The process of utilising Temporary Cloud Backup is straightforward. Users can easily upload their crucial files to the cloud from one Samsung device and access them from another device or the same one. However, it's important to note that both devices must be Samsung products to enable this seamless transfer. Additionally, two-factor authentication will be a necessary step to ensure the security of the process.

A significant highlight is that users will receive a notification as the 30-day storage period for each file concludes. This timeframe is calculated individually for each file, commencing immediately upon file upload.

Even files housed in Samsung's Secure Folder can be stored in the cloud for free during this period.

Is free cloud storage coming to India?

Samsung is gearing up for a phased rollout of the Temporary Cloud Backup storage plan, starting this fall. Initially, the service will prioritise Galaxy S and Z series devices. It is first being rolled out in Korea after which the company will soon start expanding it to other countries.

India is one of the key markets for Samsung and the country comes on its global list as well. So, the new Samsung feature is soon expected to come to India as well. This strategic approach is expected to make device upgrades and transitions to new Galaxy phones more seamless for users, potentially reducing the temptation to switch to rival devices like iPhones or other Android alternatives.
