In a groundbreaking move, BITS Pilani hosted a virtual convocation in the Metaverse. Over 6,600 professionals celebrated their academic achievements in a virtual convocation, a first-of-its-kind event in India.
An additional 900 students received their degrees in person, marking a significant milestone for the Work Integrated Learning Programmes (WILP) division of BITS Pilani. The Metaverse ceremony showcased the commitment of BITS Pilani to providing quality education to working professionals in science, engineering, and management domains.

The degrees conferred included 5,183 MTech degrees, 1,641 MBA degrees, 70 BTech degrees, and 70 MSc degrees. The diverse range of programs highlights the institute's dedication to catering to the dynamic needs of various industries.

The convocation, exclusively organised by the WILP division, emphasised the institute's role in facilitating education for working professionals. More than 1.14 lakh individuals have benefited from BITS Pilani's work-integrated learning programs over the past 43 years.
Words of wisdom from industry leaders
BVR Mohan Reddy, Founder and Executive Chairman of Cyient, and former Nasscom Chairman, addressed the graduates, urging them to embrace lifelong learning. He emphasised the importance of continuous skill development and the pursuit of excellence.

In response to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 lockdown, several institutes in India took a bold step by embracing the metaverse for certificate distribution. This innovative approach not only ensured the timely recognition of achievements but also marked a significant shift towards virtual solutions in the education sector.
