Apple could launch a search engine to rival Google Search, rumoured to be called ‘Pegasus'
Apple's Pegasus enters the search arena, aiming to rival Google's dominance—changing the game in the quest for online information.

Highlights
- Apple could launch its search engine, Pegasus, signaling a direct challenge to Google's search dominance
- Pegasus emphasises user privacy, contrasting with Google's data-centric approach, aligning with Apple's commitment to user data protection
- Pegasus aims to seamlessly integrate with Apple's ecosystem, offering a unified search experience across devices, challenging Google's cross-platform dominance
Apple, currently pocketing about $8 billion yearly from its Google deal, might be eyeing a larger share by venturing into the search engine realm. The existing deal designates Google as the default search engine across Apple devices, including iPhones, iPads, and Macs.
However, according to a report by Bloomberg, Apple under the leadership of former Google executive John Giannandrea, is aggressively working on its search capabilities. The company's new search engine, codenamed 'Pegasus,' aims to offer improved accuracy and results.

Currently integrated into some Apple apps, Pegasus is expected to be available on the Apple Store soon.
Shifting dynamics with Google
The long-standing partnership between Apple and Google, initiated in 2002, saw Google become the default search engine for the Safari browser. Apple's senior vice president of services, Eddy Cue, mentioned during the recent Google antitrust case that Apple is unparalleled in internet searches. The partnership was born out of the absence of a viable alternative at the time.
Strategic shifts for a bigger slice
Apple's move into search reflects strategic foresight. By developing its search engine, Apple could negotiate a better revenue share, potentially expanding its earnings, similar to the lucrative Apple Watch. As the tech giants navigate evolving dynamics, Apple's search market endeavour emerges as a new player in the competitive search engine arena. The Pegasus initiative marks a shift in the tech landscape, positioning Apple as a contender in the search engine domain, challenging Google's dominance.
