Xiaomi's CyberDog 2: Bridging the gap between robotics and human interaction
The remarkable robotic canine is capable of emulating the activities of a regular dog, including executing backflips, skateboarding, and engaging in a game of fetch.

Highlights
- A refined robot showcasing the potential of harmonious human-robot interactions
- It emulates a genuine puppy, responding to the owner's needs and emotions
- Chinese tech giant Xiaomi leads the way in propelling cutting-edge robotics into mainstream use
Robotics has gone beyond the realm of science fiction, rapidly morphing into a tangible reality. Chinese tech giants are at the forefront of propelling this cutting-edge technology into the mainstream, with Xiaomi, the creator of the famed Redmi Note series, taking a notable lead.
After introducing the Cyberdog in 2021, Xiaomi is now unveiling the Xiaomi Cyberdog 2, sleeker and more advanced than the previous one. This version exhibits a refined design, boasting a lifelike head and realistic proportions resembling a Doberman - a far cry from its initial resemblance to the Boston Dynamics Spot clone.
Notably, the new version is also more compact and lighter, weighing 16% less.

Empathetic connection & coexistence
The Cyberdog 2's aesthetics come enriched with novel features. An e-prism skin is capable of changing colour based on its mood, augmenting its visual appeal while embodying improved behavioural patterns.
Xiaomi has showcased the robotics dog's amazing agility in a video released recently, wherein it effortlessly executes various tricks, including backflips, skateboarding, and even playing fetch.
Interaction with the robot can take place through gestures, touch, and voice commands, akin to real dog-human interactions. The robot can even trail users as they explore urban landscapes.

CyberDog 2 & human connections
What truly sets the CyberDog 2 apart is its seamless connection with humans. Unlike its predecessor, this version emulates a genuine puppy, discerning and responding to its owner's needs and emotions.
Its high level of empathy endows it with more natural and human-like reactions, manifested through body language. For instance, when its owner is elated, the CyberDog 2 mirrors the emotion by wagging its tail and exhibiting playful behaviour.
Xiaomi's leading role in robotics
Despite its remarkable array of capabilities, the Cyberdog isn't designed to supplant real dogs. A video demonstration illustrates the harmonious coexistence of the Cyberdog and a live dog under one roof.
Additionally, the robot may even aid owners in monitoring their pets, thanks to an integrated camera capable of broadcasting footage to connected devices.
Targeted primarily at developers and enthusiasts, the Cyberdog 2 has yet to announce a release beyond China. It carries a price tag of 12,999 Yuan (approximately Rs 1.5 lakh) within the country.
This innovation signifies a notable stride forward in the convergence of robotics and daily life, offering a glimpse into the potential of harmonious human-robot interactions in the future.
