During the Reliance Annual General Meeting, Mukesh Ambani, the Chairman and Managing director of Reliance Industries, revealed that Jio AirFiber wireless internet service is set to be launched on Ganesh Chaturthi, i.e. 19 September.

This innovative service, utilising Jio True 5G technology, will provide a wireless network akin to fiber-optic speeds. Acting as a personal Wi-Fi hotspot, Jio AirFiber aims to bring seamless connectivity to every corner of a home.

What is Jio AirFiber?

Jio AirFiber is a high-speed internet service that promises to deliver fiber-like speeds through wireless transmission. By simply plugging in and turning on the device, users can establish their personal Wi-Fi hotspot at home or in the office, granting access to ultra-fast internet using True 5G technology.

The service aims to make quick and efficient Gigabit-speed internet connectivity accessible to households and businesses alike.

What is the aim of Jio AirFiber?

The ambition of Jio AirFiber is notable, as the company plans to offer an impressive 150,000 connections daily. Reliance aims to extend its network to over 200 million users, building upon its existing 10 million JioFiber customer base spread across an extensive 1.5 million kilometres of network.

Mukesh Ambani highlighted the technology behind Jio AirFiber, which leverages a nationwide 5G network to eliminate the need for traditional last-mile fiber connections. He emphasised that this advancement would expedite internet expansion significantly.

The financial standing of Reliance Industries was also discussed, showcasing consolidated revenues of ₹9,74,864 crore, an EBITDA of ₹1,53,920 crore, and a net profit of ₹73,670 crore for FY23. Ambani proudly stated that the company achieved remarkable employment milestones, generating 2.6 lakh jobs in the same fiscal year.

How is the Jio AirFiber different from the Jio Fiber?

JioFiber operates using fiber-optic technology, necessitating the installation of fiber-optic cables directly into users' residences. These cables are then linked to a router or directly to the device seeking internet access. JioFiber delivers consistently fast and stable speeds, but it demands a denser infrastructure to ensure connectivity.

On the other side, Jio AirFiber simplifies the process – it's a device that users only need to activate after purchasing. Similar to a high-speed WiFi hotspot, Jio AirFiber offers significantly faster internet speeds. Though not confirmed, it is believed that AirFiber is Jio's foray into satellite-based high-speed internet technology.
