Deepmind announces new AI tool, Dramatron to write film scripts

Amid the growing fascination with ChatGPT's script-writing capabilities, DeepMind Technologies unveiled Dramatron, a new AI film-writing tool, on 9 December. The introduction of this tool is to write screenplays and professional scripts, as mentioned by Deepmind, a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc. 

What does it offer?

Dramatron with the help of an Open-AI OPI and Perspective API, allows authors to compose, edit and create their stories apart from detecting and filtering hate speech on the Internet using machine learning.  

In a blog post, DeepMind described this tool as an increasingly interactive writing model and said, "Language models are becoming more and more common among authors. They are, however, limited in their utility for long-form creative writing due to a lack of long-range semantic coherence." 

Dramatron overcomes this limitation by employing hierarchical language model application. By creating structural context through prompt chaining, Dramatron is able to produce scripts and screenplays that are cohesive and include a title, characters, story beats, place descriptions, and dialogue.

Can Dramatron also become controversial, like Lensa AI?

Concerns regarding AI's operations and privacy were sparked by the recent Lensa AI dispute among artists and consumers. It is not surprising that if Dramatron is not used appropriately, such a storm may develop. The United States Copyright Office (USCO) released a report earlier this year on February 14 in which it denied AI the right to copyright the creations of creative artists.

Moreover, Artificial intelligence was prohibited from being listed as an inventor on a patent in 2021 by the English and Welsh Courts of Appeal (Civil Division).

On this, DeepMind said, "Dramatron can output fragments of text that were used to train the language model, which, if used in a produced script, could lead to accusations of plagiarism."
