Uttar Pradesh STF is on the verge of implementing AI-driven criminal data system

The Special Task Force (STF) of the Uttar Pradesh Police Department has commenced the process of obtaining an advanced AI-based criminal data creation and retrieval system. This state-of-the-art system aims to assist law enforcement agencies in identifying criminals by utilising face and voice matching tools.

Additionally, it will enable the STF to maintain detailed profiles of individuals with a history of criminal activities.

The Uttar Pradesh government anticipates that this implementation will expedite the resolution of cases and aid in the swift apprehension of offenders. Tenders have been issued, and four companies have displayed interest in installing the system, which is estimated to cost three crore Rupees.

If successfully implemented, Uttar Pradesh will become the second state in India to adopt such an AI-powered Criminal Data Creation and Retrieval System, following Telangana. Until now, the tracking of criminals in Uttar Pradesh has relied on the Criminal Tracking System employed by the state police.

However, the integration of criminal databases using artificial intelligence will revolutionise this process. Facial recognition will occur within seconds, allowing for the swift matching of faces across the entire database and providing pertinent information accordingly.

In addition to facial recognition, the system will utilise voice analysis and consider modus operandi, family backgrounds, and criminal histories. The comprehensive data provided by this AI-based system will equip law enforcement agencies with valuable insights, enhancing their capabilities in crime investigation and prevention.
