Spotify explores voice translation for podcasts with Microsoft-backed OpenAI technology
The audio streaming company announced on Monday that Spotify will now take a test step with OpenAI technology that can transfer podcasts to other languages, basically mimicking the original speaker style.

Highlights
- The Swedish Company has made the latest attempt to capitalise on generative AI feature
- The voice translations are only available in a few languages for a select number of episodes
Spotify is testing its technology with artificial intelligence features for translating podcasts recorded by podcasters Dax Shepherd (American actor) and Lex Fridman (a computer scientist) to other languages. The AI's latest technology is mimicking the original speaker style.
After the rise of ChatGPT, the Swedish Company has capitalised on its latest attempt to feature AI technology to get new users and boost its revenue.
According to Spotify, the new Microsoft-backed OpenAI’s newly launched voice generation technology is so advanced that the mimicked version of the original podcast sounds very original and more natural than the other traditional dubbing sounds.
Podcasters - what if I told you could offer your pod to any listener around the world, in their own local language but still keep it in your own voice? That’s the pilot we’re launching @Spotify!

Languages used by AI
The voice-translated podcasts from the original episodes will be generated in limited languages like French, German, and Spanish in the coming weeks. It’s also reported that selected episodes will be chosen, including the future episodes that will be released.
This feature will be available in all countries where Spotify is available, and it is for both free and premium users.
Testing with Celebrities
The new technology has already been tested with Podcast host Bill Simmons, an American podcaster, sports writer, and CEO of sports and culture websites.
Other celebs, like Lex Fridman, Monica Padman, and Steve Barlett, have had their episodes tested, and now the platform is going to release there episodes using AI voice generation technology in the languages mentioned.
AI’s future Spotify podcasts
According to the platform, the episodes released by the tested podcasters in the future will also be generated by AI.
Spotify has said that the upcoming original podcast by Trevor Noah, a famous South African comedian, writer, producer, and actor who hosts “ The Daily Show,” an American late night talk show, is expected to gain support for the launch of the automatic translation tool later this year.
