Highlights
- Many of OpenAI's senior staff are reportedly unhappy with its CEO, Sam Altman
- A few of them have stepped down from their position and have joined Google
As per reports, Open AI, whose brainchild, ChatGPT, took the world by storm, is perhaps facing internal chaos. Many of its senior staff are reportedly unhappy with its CEO, Sam Altman, as well as the company's vision and future strategy. In fact, a few of them have stepped down from their position and have joined its competitor, Google and a few more are also planning to follow suit.
Reports suggest that the company's staff is unhappy about its swift growth rate. Interestingly, its workforce has risen by 500 percent, i.e., from 100 employees in December 2022 to nearly 600 at present. Further, Sam Altman’s critical attitude towards unregulated AI technologies doesn't seem to go down well with some senior executives at OpenAI. They feel his statements are “just accessories to appease politicians.”
In fact, a report states, “Employees say that he has only a superficial understanding of many topics and hardly cares about day-to-day business.”
Experts opine that this should serve as a 'wake-up call' for the company.
Some of OpenAI’s staff are former Google employees
If reports are to be believed, Google, which is hiring AI experts from OpenAI, is taking back what it lost to its competitor. As of February 2023, over 25 percent of OpenAI’s total staff were former Google employees. Sources close to the company mentioned that OpenAI's leadership team is predominantly made up of former Big Tech workers.
OpenAI currently employs about 59 ex-Google employees and about 34 former Meta staff. It has also hired employees from several other big conglomerates like Apple, Microsoft, and Amazon. The company had also hired Tesla's former head of Autopilot Andrej Karpathy.
