In a ground-breaking declaration, Chris Hyams, CEO of job provider site Indeed has outlined his company's innovative approach to recruitment, combining generative AI with human recruiters to create what he calls 'cyborg' recruiters. The goal is to streamline and enhance the hiring process by eliminating repetitive and tedious tasks while harnessing the unique strengths of both humans and machines.
Recruitment with AI
In an interview with Bloomberg, Hyams unveiled the company's strategic move towards merging human expertise with AI capabilities.
He stated, "We've transitioned approximately 50 of our own recruitment professionals to a service we've named Indeed Hire, a comprehensive agency assisting other companies in their hiring endeavours."
Indeed's innovative approach leverages AI to optimise the recruitment process. Hyams envisions a harmonious collaboration between humans and machines, referring to it as the 'cyborg model.'
"We're not looking to replace human recruiters with robots. I aim to develop what I call the 'Iron Man suit for recruiters."
The rise of generative AI technologies, such as ChatGPT, has revolutionised various aspects of the job market, including helping job seekers create CVs, craft job descriptions, and even negotiate salaries. Consequently, traditional recruitment roles are facing challenges and potential transformations.
Job cuts & AI team's resilience
Earlier this year, Indeed implemented job cuts affecting around 2,200 employees, constituting 15 percent of the company's workforce. Remarkably, the layoffs did not impact the company's AI team. Reflecting on this decision, Hyams expressed regret over its effects on people's lives but emphasised the need to adapt to changing demands.
"As our workload increased, we continued to hire more staff. Historically, we had never experienced layoffs at the company. I do regret the impact this had on people's lives."
Indeed's innovative approach to recruitment demonstrates a commitment to harnessing the potential of AI while preserving the invaluable human touch in the hiring process, offering a glimpse into the future of recruitment.
