IIT Jammu announces new course to bridge gap between Math & AI

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jammu has recently announced a B.Tech in Mathematics and Computing, an advanced undergraduate programme, in response to the rapid breakthroughs in AI. The purpose of launching such a course, according to one of the official spokespersons of the institute, was to empower young minds to contribute to its revolutionary advancements.
Students will gain knowledge on the complexities of Maths and AI
The information further suggested that this four-year B.Tech. programme in Mathematics and Computing is designed to provide students with a thorough understanding of the interdependence between Computer Science and Mathematics. To simplify, this launch will allow students to gain knowledge of the complex relationship between Maths and rapidly developing fields of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and Data Science (DS).
Additionally, the institute has further claimed to provide students with the exposure of areas like statistics, optimisation methods along with real and complex analysis. The official went on to state that students would receive solid education in the foundational computer science concepts needed for their particular field.
The programme would also enable students to tailor their educational experience through its wide range of electives from other fields, allowing them to explore their particular areas of interest and ignite their interest in particular subjects.
Selection process to be based on valid rank in JEE
The selection process will be based on the valid rank obtained in the JEE (Advanced) National Entrance Exam 2022. "Aspirants need to have cleared their Class XII or equivalent examinations from a recognised board, with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, a language, and an additional subject in addition to the aforementioned four," stated the spokesperson.
