Govt constitutes body for AI regulation, framework likely to be submitted in two weeks
The Indian authorities have set up INDAIai to drive AI growth in the country.

Highlights
- Indian government has constituted seven working groups
- They have been established under India’s National programme for Artificial Intelligence
As artificial intelligence (AI) is gaining momentum, big tech firms are calling for its regulated usage. Hence, nations across the globe are gearing up for its supervised usage.
As per recent reports, the Indian government has directed seven working groups to submit their recommendations for the AI framework in the coming two weeks.
The above-mentioned working groups have been constituted under India’s National programme for Artificial Intelligence (INDIAai) and are expected to suggest a comprehensive framework governing Al in the next two weeks. It must be noted that members of these groups are from the industry and academia, which would help in making the policy more balanced and realistic.
The department will look into the development of a data governance framework for AI. It would also establish an India Data Management Office and would be tasked with overseeing the AI-related regulatory aspects of Al. In fact, in the words of an official from the INDIAai, "The working groups have been constituted with representatives from industry and academia to fine tune the policy so that it’s made more realistic.” He further added that once the reports are presented to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Meity), a single document would be carved and sent for review before it is finally implemented.
AI usage to get a boost
Further, these working groups would help drive the nation's AI growth by assessing methods for capacity building and skilling. Moreover, they also aim at promoting AI-related startups across the country.
Also, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the Union Minister of State for Electronics and Technology, had earlier mentioned that the country’s AI framework needs to have properly chalked out do's and don'ts that will enable innovation and at the same time, prevent user harm.
The IT Ministry, under the INDIAai initiative, aims to develop Centres of Excellence, which would have access to Indian startups and Indian researchers. This would help in developing learning models to train AI for various public-centre projects.
