Google soon to open early access to its Project ‘Tailwind’, an AI-first notebook
Google at its I/O event last month, previewed its Project ‘Tailwind’, an AI-first notebook, which allows users to synthesise information from many different sources.

Highlights
- This is an experimental project, based on PaLM 2 large language model
- The project can help students enhance their learning
At Google I/O 2023 held last month, the California tech giant introduced a bevvy of AI tools and features throughout its services. As Google is scrambling to close the AI gap with its rivals like Microsoft, the above-mentioned event witnessed the unveiling of several innovative early-stage AI experiments involving Google search, music-making and Workspace apps.

At the event, Google unveiled a prototype AI notebook, called Project Tailwind, which is aimed at making note-making smarter for users.
Things you should know about the project
Based on PaLM 2(Google Pathways Language Model) large language model (LLM), Project Tailwind, lets users synthesise information from many different sources, allowing users to get the desired information quickly and accurately.
For students, Project Tailwind offers a way to enhance their learning by utilising their stored class notes, assignments/essays, and readings from Google Drive. By incorporating this information into Tailwind, students can create a personalised and private AI model that possesses expertise in their specific subject matter.
This AI model can assist them in various ways, such as generating study guides, providing summaries, or even creating quizzes. The user interface of Tailwind is designed to offer prompts and enable users to leverage their data effectively.
Apart from students, the said tool is beneficial to several other users, like writers conducting research, analysts reviewing earnings calls, and lawyers preparing for cases, etc. It must be noted that Tailwind is an experimental project.
Google AI-first notebook coming soon
Google has been accepting sign-ups for the waitlist of Project Tailwind under Google Labs since the beginning of the previous month. The company, in its latest update on the landing page, states that early access to the waitlisted users will be granted soon.

In addition to advancements in the initial experimental phase, Google intends to give Project Tailwind a new name that aligns with its helpful and progressive nature. This name change will be accompanied by a matching blue wind favicon.
