Google’s chief writes in his blogpost,
“AI will be the biggest technological shift we see in our lifetimes. It’s bigger than the shift from desktop computing to mobile, and it may be bigger than the internet itself. It’s a fundamental rewiring of technology and an incredible accelerant of human ingenuity.”
Google’s central role for the web function
Ever since its inception, Google has held a pivotal position in shaping the landscape of the internet. Its co-founders, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, embarked on a mission to organise the world's information and ensure its global accessibility, fundamentally altering how the web operates.
AI forces tech leaders to rush on new tech
The rise of generative AI, like OpenAI’s ChatGPT, has made internet companies, including Google, rush to catch up with his new tech.
Generative AI is a big change and every tech giant considers it as the biggest technological advancement, not just for finding information, but for many other things too. So, these companies want to be ready for what’s coming down the lane.
Google has been into AI for quite a while, especially after buying the London-based AI company, DeepMind, for over $500 million back in 2014. However, this year, a chatbot that can answer people's questions on the internet came along, and it gave Google a bit of a challenge.
Google’s upcoming AI model ‘Gemini’
In February, Google introduced its own AI chatbot named Bard. Now, they're getting ready to launch another AI model called Gemini, which uses the GPT model. It's expected to be a strong competitor to OpenAI's ChatGPT.
Pichai wrote, "Making AI more helpful for everyone, and deploying it responsibly, is the most important way we'll deliver on our mission for the next 10 years and beyond."
