Chinese search giant Baidu boasts it can better ChatGPT on various factors
In the midst of OpenAI’s ChatGPT popularity, several tech firms are taking a plunge to build their AI models, which marks the entry of Baidu’s announcement of building an AI model, Ernie 3.5, which is said to overpower the Microsoft backed chatbot, based on a recent test.

On Tuesday, China's top search engine, Baidu Inc., said that the most recent version of its ChatGPT-like service had outperformed the widely used OpenAI chatbot, on a number of important parameters.
As per the recent information, Ernie 3.5, the latest version of Baidu’s Ernie AI model, had surpassed ChatGPT in comprehensive ability scores and outperformed GPT-4 in several Chinese capabilities.
Baidu’s AI model abilities tested
The performance of Baidu's AI model was further tested by the Beijing-based company, which ran a test using datasets including AGIEval and C-Eval, two benchmarks used to evaluate the performance of artificial intelligence (AI) models.
The announcement of Baidu comes at a time when AI innovations like ChatGPT are making rounds across the globe due to its popularity. The favorability of such AI models has further prompted a rush of domestic startups in China to announce such technological products.
Since then, several other significant Chinese tech companies, like Tencent Holdings and Alibaba Group, have made their respective AI models public
Baidu will support external plugins for its AI model
When Baidu introduced its language model, Ernie Bot in March 2023, it became the first significant Chinese tech company to introduce an AI product to compete with ChatGPT. As per the information, Ernie Bot has been in invite-only testing for the past three months and is based on Baidu's older Ernie 3.0 AI model.

According to Baidu, the new model has higher training and inference efficiency, positioning it for future versions that will be faster and less expensive. Also, the new model would support third-party 'plugins,’ the company stated.
With the help of plugins, Baidu's AI will be able to work on more specialised tasks like summing lengthy texts and producing more accurate results.
