- From food to leisure, the family of Kolkata girl had to cut down on many things
According to a 22-year-old woman from Kolkata, ChatGPT caused a 90 percent decrease in her revenue. Reports have confirmed that the workload burden faced by Sharanaya Bhattacharya has decreased dramatically from last year.
The professional copywriter and ghostwriter was said to be earning approximately $240(₹20,000) every month while obtaining her degree and has witnessed a cut down on commissions.
Organisations opted ChatGPT
The student used to work at a creative solutions firm on SEO-optimised articles. After some time, the company stopped giving Bhattacharya commissions from November 2022 and started using ChatGPT in its place.
As companies tried to save costs, the number of pieces she wrote decreased to about 1-2 every month. She further charged that the company had not been transparent about the decrease in her workload.
She claimed that the AI revolution had also been ‘really tough on her family’ because she could only make 10 percent of her prior income. They were compelled to spend solely on necessities, according to the girl's 45-year-old mother, a saree seller who depended on her income.
According to Bhattacharya, "We've had to manage how much food we consume, and we no longer do things we used to enjoy doing like going out to eat – we can only do that once or twice every couple of months now." She continued to say, "To ensure that we could live comfortably, we had to prioritise spending money on necessities like food and bills."
Companies should combine human abilities with AI
Given that this technology was having an effect on some talented copywriters, she voiced her desire for a future in which AI can be combined with human abilities for the best outcomes.
Further, Bhattacharya advised companies to recognise the huge difference between manual and AI-generated jobs, adding that the prospect of impending unemployment and an uncertain future had led to panic attacks and worry.
