Adobe Firefly AI now available for free! Create stunning copyright-free images & workflows for commercial use
Adobe's Firefly AI goes commercial, offering creative possibilities, a standalone web app, and customisable solutions for enterprises.

Highlights
- Users can explore new creative possibilities, including vector recolouring, text-to-image effects, and generative content creation
- Firefly for Enterprise offers customisable solutions, while Adobe ensures responsible AI use with attribution and cost-effective computational management
Adobe has officially launched its Firefly generative AI model for commercial use in a momentous development, marking the end of an extensive beta-testing phase. This groundbreaking technology is now accessible to users across Adobe Creative Cloud, Adobe Express, and Adobe Experience Cloud, opening up a world of creative possibilities.
While there may be certain regional limitations in countries with stringent AI regulations, this move by Adobe represents a significant step forward in integrating AI into creative applications.
Empowering creativity with Firefly
Adobe's Firefly-powered workflows, previously confined to beta versions of Adobe's apps, have now become widely available. Users can now harness the power of Firefly in applications like Illustrator for vector recolouring, Express for text-to-image effects, and Photoshop for Generative Fill tools.
To assess the creative prowess of Firefly, we put it to the test using prompts such as ‘An ultra-realistic image of flying squirrel in outer space, show Earth in the background’, and 'An ultra-realistic image of a squirrel in post-apocalyptic city ruins, looking for food and running on tree branches.’
The results were nothing short of astounding, as the tool not only generated outputs for these scenarios but also presented diverse options. This remarkable feature left us in awe and excitement.
Additionally, Adobe has introduced a standalone Firefly web app, enabling users to explore its generative capabilities without the need for specific Adobe Creative Suite subscriptions. Adobe Express Premium and the Firefly web app will be bundled as part of select paid Creative Cloud subscription plans.
Firefly for enterprise: A Safe & customisable solution
Adobe Firefly for Enterprise is another exciting development. It is poised to be a valuable asset for businesses seeking a commercially viable generative AI model. Notably, Adobe trained Firefly using Adobe Stock and public domain content, eliminating copyright concerns.
Furthermore, Adobe is actively working on ways for customers to personalise Firefly models with their unique assets, thereby generating custom content tailored to their brand's requirements. Moreover, Adobe is taking a proactive stance on transparency and authenticity.
All content produced using Firefly-powered features includes Content Credentials—a digital ‘nutrition label’ backed by the Content Authenticity Initiative. This label provides essential attribution metadata, clearly identifying an image as AI-generated. It showcases information such as the asset's name, creation date, the tools used in its creation, and any subsequent edits.
Notably, Adobe is among the 15 companies that have pledged to the White House to develop technology capable of identifying AI-generated images and sharing safety data to promote responsible generative AI usage. To manage the computational demands and associated costs of generative AI, Adobe has introduced a novel credit-based system.
Users can exchange these credits to access the fastest Firefly-powered workflows. The allocation of Generative Credits is now part of the Firefly web app, Express Premium, and Creative Cloud paid plans, with all-app Creative Cloud subscribers receiving a generous monthly allocation of 1,000 credits.
With the commercial availability of Adobe Firefly, the creative landscape is poised for transformation, offering users a powerful tool to ignite their imagination and enhance their creative endeavours.
