Discord rolls out the latest mobile update, bringing dedicated tabs for servers and messages, a sleek OLED dark mode, and an array of exciting.

Highlights
- Dedicated tabs for servers and messages enhance app organisation
- A new dark mode tailored for OLED screens improves visual aesthetics and energy efficiency
- Efficiently search through messages, attachments, and files across all conversations
In a highly anticipated move, Discord, the popular communication platform, has introduced a comprehensive redesign for its mobile app, bringing a breath of fresh air to users who have long awaited a more user-friendly interface.
Rolled out on Tuesday, the redesign marks a significant departure from its desktop version, with a heightened focus on enhancing communication and sharing experiences with friends.
Streamlined navigation tabs for effortless interaction
Upon opening the app, users will immediately notice the revamped navigation tabs, now featuring distinct sections for servers, messages, and notifications. A novel addition is the ‘You’ tab, providing users with convenient access to edit their profiles and adjust settings seamlessly.
The overhaul eliminates the perplexing lineup of tabs at the bottom, simplifying the user experience.
Global DM search function: Efficiency redefined
One of the standout features is the introduction of a global direct message (DM) search function. Users can now search through messages, pins, attachments, and other files across all their conversations without having to navigate into individual DMs. This streamlines the process of finding specific information, enhancing overall efficiency and user satisfaction.
Midnight: The long-awaited dark mode for OLEDs
Discord has officially introduced ‘Midnight,’ a dark mode tailored for OLED screens. This feature caters to user preferences and adds a sleek aesthetic to the platform, aligning with the growing trend of dark mode options in various applications.
Optimised media sharing and storage
Media sharing receives a boost with a 25MB free file upload limit and an improved grid view for photos. The mobile app now efficiently stores recent messages from up to 700 text channels and direct messages, resulting in quicker loading times and smoother scrolling—a boon for users navigating diverse content.
Speedy launch, reduced data usage, & enhanced stability
Discord has significantly optimised the app launch time, boasting a 43 percent reduction on iOS and a remarkable 55 percent on Android. Android users can anticipate fewer crashes, thanks to background message caching.
Discord estimates that the new update consumes four times less data, contributing to a more seamless and data-efficient user experience.
In a blog post announcing the update, Francesco Polizzi, Discord's group product manager, highlighted the evolution of mobile usage trends, emphasising the need for a redesign to align with users' on-the-go preferences.
As Discord continues to adapt to the evolving landscape, the latest mobile refresh stands as a testament to its commitment to delivering an exceptional user experience.
