Canva, an Australian company that makes design software, is introducing brand new features and a collection of AI-powered tools. On March 23, in Sydney, the company conducted an event to introduce the new AI features and tools under the name "Magic", which Canva expected to broadcast to a million remote viewers.

On this occasion, the company is making its most recent effort to enable anyone to design anything with ease. The majority of these new features are intended to increase accessibility for those without formal design training in producing content like social media graphics, presentations, and advertising materials.

At the event, the company launched a variety of AI-powered tools. The 110 million users of Canva can expect to experience amazing AI tools and branded workspace features.

Other visual worksuite tools and features

The release comes with increased interest in “Generative AI," which is software that can generate text, pictures, music, and even videos in response to human input.

Several new Canva products were unveiled at the event, including the "Magic Design" feature, which allows users to upload an image and choose a style to bring it to life on a unique and customisable template. Users can now draw any kind of design using the new “Draw feature”, and they have the option to match their sketches to the library of elements.

"Magic Eraser" and "Magic Edit" are new tools that enable users to simply eliminate unnecessary objects and switch pieces accordingly, saving consumers time and effort.

The event also saw the addition of the “Beat Sync function” which perfectly aligns video to a music track's beat, and the "Magic Presentation" feature, which creates the presentations by outlining the slides users want to see in a description. They can also get recommendations for pictures and layouts, generate custom AI content, and automatically translate the text in designs into over 100 different languages.

Furthermore, the "Magic Write" function has also been expanded throughout the whole Visual Suite, allowing users to utilise it to compose speeches, blog entries, and even creative poems.

Canva's CEO discusses new AI tools

According to the CEO of Canva, Melanie Perkins, the company has been working on AI tools in general since 2019, when it began collaborating with Austrian firm Kaleido AI on drag-and-drop background removal from videos and photographs. The next year, it bought Kaleido and announced the transfer in early 2021.

When asked what Canva's increased automation and AI technologies imply for graphic designers and other creative professionals who use its software, Perkins told reporters that such tools will allow them to spend less time on tedious, repetitive tasks like changing out logos. "I believe brands will begin to want various things from agencies and different things from graphic designers," she said.
