AI gets push! Jamia Millia Islamia announces 3 week AI and machine learning training
Amid rapid AI adoption, colleges like JMI plunge into offering AI- based courses to students for three weeks in July.

An upcoming short-term training programme on artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) has been announced by Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), and registrations are currently open.
Jamia Millia Islamia is a central university located in New Delhi, India. Originally established at Aligarh, United Provinces (present-day Uttar Pradesh, India) during the British Raj in 1920, it moved to its current location in Okhla in 1935. It was given the deemed status by the University Grants Commission in 1962. On 26 December 1988, it became a central university.

According to the university's brochure, the program, which is being run by the Department of Computer Engineering, will go for three weeks from July 4 to July 22. In the year 2000, the Department of Computer Engineering was founded. The 2023 NIRF rankings placed JMI's Faculty of Engineering and Technology at 26th place out of all Indian engineering institutes.
"The timings of the program are from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, from Monday to Saturday. The classes will be held both online and offline," the official informed. According to the university, the course consists of both lectures and practical work which is conceptualised under the supervision of qualified experts.
As per the information from the university, there are 80 seats available for the course, with 30 reserved for those taking it in person and 50 for those taking it online. Seats will be assigned according to the 'first come, first serve' technique. The course is open to all undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students as well as faculty members with a background in mathematics.
Glimpse on the course offered and teachers assigned for it
Applied data science with Python, machine learning algorithms, deep learning for computer vision using Keras and Tensorflow, and deep learning for natural language processing using Keras and Tensorflow will make up the majority of the course's five sections.
The course will be instructed by JMI academics with experience in the industry, as well as by lecturers from the IITs, NITs, and IIITs as well as foreign universities, according to the course brochure. The course's curriculum focuses on the key ideas and methods in AI and ML.
According to the brochure, the registration fee is Rs 4,000 for Jamia students and academicians and Rs 6,000 for those from other universities. All students would receive the reference materials and session slides from the lectures, it stated.
"Students would be evaluated throughout the course through various quizzes and assignments. The students would also receive a certificate from the university after the completion of their course," the official informed.
