Infosys, one of India's leading IT companies, has announced a significant expansion of its strategic collaboration with American chipmaker Nvidia. This partnership involves Nvidia providing its artificial intelligence (AI) models, tools, applications, and computing infrastructure to Infosys.

In return, Infosys will embark on an ambitious endeavour to train 50,000 of its 336,000+ employees in Nvidia's AI technologies. The co-founder and chairman of Infosys stated in a stock exchange filing that the firm was "transforming into an AI-first company to better provide AI-based services to our clients worldwide."

Empowering 50,000 employees with AI

To harness Nvidia's AI capabilities, Infosys has set up a dedicated Center of Excellence (CoE) to train its workforce. This initiative aims to equip 50,000 Infosys employees with expertise in Nvidia's AI stack. Infosys recognises the increasing importance of AI in the tech industry and strives to provide cutting-edge AI services to its global clients.

Unlocking advanced AI applications for Infosys clients

As part of the expanded collaboration, Infosys is gearing up to offer a range of cutting-edge AI applications to its clients. These applications will become accessible as demand and capability increase. Some of the noteworthy applications include:

Computer vision solutions: Infosys will introduce computer vision capabilities through its Video Analytics platform. This technology will be built upon Nvidia's Metropolis computer vision infrastructure platform. This will empower clients with advanced visual analysis and recognition tools.

Custom language models: Infosys is set to provide custom enterprise large language models (LLMs) via its Generative AI Labs. These LLMs will be developed using Nvidia's 'NeMo' LLM framework.

Custom language models enhance natural language understanding and generation, offering tailored solutions for clients.

Translational AI use cases: Clients of Infosys will gain access to translational use cases based on Nvidia's Riva generative AI platform. These applications will be made available through Infosys' 'Cortex' platform, enabling clients to leverage AI-driven language processing and generation.

Infosys has already been offering generative AI applications through its 'Topaz' AI platform, which received enthusiastic endorsement from CEO Salil Parekh during the Q1 FY24 quarterly earnings call. As of the first quarter, Infosys was actively engaged in 80 client projects involving generative AI.

Additionally, the company was in the process of training 40,000 employees in generative AI skills, reinforcing its commitment to staying at the forefront of AI innovation.

Navigating global challenges with AI

The move to strengthen its AI capabilities comes as Infosys and other Indian IT service providers seek to navigate challenging global economic conditions. Despite reporting 15.4 percent annual revenue growth in FY23, Infosys lowered its revenue guidance for FY24 due to macroeconomic factors.

Infosys and its peers are increasingly focusing on generative AI to enhance their tech offerings and adapt to evolving market dynamics.
