Social media platform X, formerly Twitter, is introducing a new "Not A Bot" subscription model, charging $1 annually for basic features like likes, reposts, quoting posts, and web bookmarks.
This move aims to combat bots and spammers. Fees will vary by country based on exchange rates. Initially, the model will be available in New Zealand and the Philippines.
Existing users remain unaffected, while new users who choose not to subscribe can only view posts, watch videos, and follow accounts.
X CEO has plans to make this subscription into three tiers based on the display of advertisements.
Elon Musk's X addresses bot concerns
Last year, entrepreneur Elon Musk took over the reins of social media platform X. Facing ongoing challenges related to bot activity, X introduced a measure in July to limit tweet viewing. This was implemented as a means to safeguard and authenticate the platform's user base.
X CEO explores subscription tiers
Recently, according to a Reuters report from earlier this month, X's CEO, Linda Yaccarino, held discussions with the company's lenders. During the meeting, she revealed plans to test three subscription service tiers, each correlated with the number of ads displayed to users.
