WhatsApp desktop adds 32-person video calling feature, adds one more feature for better user experience
WhatsApp is allegedly developing an improved feature on its Windows desktop software that will allow users to have video and voice chats with up to 32 people.

Highlights
- WhatsApp Windows users can now video call up to 32 people
- The feature is only available to beta testers
- Users can set message pin duration in conversations, says reports
WhatsApp is continuously improving its application by introducing new features, such as the Chat Lock feature, video messages, and the ability to silence an unknown caller. With its next update, WhatsApp has increased the number of individuals that can join a single video call, allowing users to engage in video and audio calls with up to 32 individuals.
The newest functionality, which was previously restricted to group video chats with up to 8 people, is presently being made available only to beta testers. This significant improvement comes as WhatsApp works to give its users a more interactive and collaborative experience.
Availability of WhatsApp's video call feature
According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp has started rolling out a feature that enables video calling for up to 32 people gradually. The feature is currently only available to beta testers, and users need to download the beta update 2.23.24.1.0 in order to utilise the feature.
The most recent upgrade now allows beta testers to make video conversations with larger groups, whereas Windows users previously could only make voice calls with numerous participants. A limited number of beta testers who have installed the most current WhatsApp beta for Windows will initially have access to this feature. But in the coming days, it's anticipated that a larger user base will progressively receive it.
This news comes in response to Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO and founder of Meta, who disclosed intentions to roll out this video calling capability for both Android and iOS users in November of last year.
Additionally, it was made public earlier this month that a limited number of WhatsApp beta testers using Windows were experimenting with screen-sharing for video discussions. This feature allows video chat participants to choose whether to share a specific window or their entire screen with other participants. This functionality enhances cooperation by enabling users to submit presentations, documents, or any other sort of content during video conferences.
What is the 'Message Pin Duration' feature?
WhatsApp is also developing a new feature named ‘Message Pin Duration’ in the meantime. It is found in the WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.23.13.11, which is accessible via the Google Play Store. The report explains that the Message Pin Duration feature would let users select how long a message should remain pinned in a conversation.
Using the 'Message Pin Duration' feature, users have the option to select a time period, after which the pinned message will be unpinned automatically. In accordance with their preferences, users can choose to pin a conversation for 24 hours, 7 days, or 30 days. It's important to note that users will always have the option to unpin the message that is presently pinned, even before the selected time period has passed.
