In a groundbreaking move, the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has joined forces with blockchain firm Modex to launch its very own non-fungible token (NFT) collection, just in time for the highly anticipated 2023 Club World Cup in Saudi Arabia. This strategic collaboration aims to enhance fan engagement and bring a new dimension to the world of soccer through blockchain technology.

Exclusive NFT collection and unique opportunities

The inaugural NFT collection, consisting of 100 tokens, is set to debut on 15 December. Notably, these NFTs offer fans a unique opportunity to secure tickets for the FIFA World Cup 2026 final, adding an extra layer of excitement for soccer enthusiasts. Additionally, 900 digital collectibles will be released on the Polygon network and OpenSea, showcasing memorable moments from the tournament and digital versions of coveted memorabilia.

FIFA+ Collect platform on Algorand

FIFA's NFT platform, FIFA+ Collect, which was launched in September 2022 and operates on the Algorand blockchain, has been the host for 11 NFT drops. Since its inception, the platform has seen the minting of 909,255 digital collectibles and boasts 16,448 holders. However, it's worth noting that the reported $2.4 million in trading volume includes both primary and secondary markets, and FIFA+ Collect Info clarifies that the mint volume might include packs obtained for free in challenges.

Francesco Abbate, CEO of Modex, expressed excitement about the collaboration, stating, "Digital collectibles increase the ways in which fans can interact with their favorite players, teams, and the game they love, and we're honored to support FIFA in realising this goal."

The FIFA Club World Cup and the future of NFTs in soccer

The FIFA Club World Cup brings together seven of the world's top football teams, and the champions of FIFA’s six confederations are all participating, states FIFA. The launch of the NFT collection aligns with FIFA's commitment to embracing technological innovations, providing fans with immersive experiences, and creating a bridge between the physical and digital realms of soccer fandom.
