Rishi Sunak, Prime Minister of UK, announced on Wednesday, 07 June 2023 that UK would host the first artificial intelligence conference in the world later this year in an effort to facilitate international cooperation to reduce the technology's potential hazards while maximising its possibilities.

According to a statement from the British government, the meeting will explore the hazards of AI, especially border systems, and discuss how they could be minimised by internationally coordinated action. The event's date was not specified.
The prime minister said at the start of his two-day trip to the United States that Britain will host the world's first artificial intelligence conference in the second half of the year.
"AI has enormous potential to improve human lives. But we must ensure that technology is created and used in a safe and secure manner. Throughout history, we have invented paradigm-shifting new technologies and harnessed them for the benefit of humanity on numerous occasions. That's what we have to do again."
During a meeting in Japan last month, the Group of Seven or G7 called for action on artificial intelligence. The summit will take place in the autumn and will bring together like-minded countries to form a regulatory response. However, the US and the EU held negotiations on an AI code of conduct.
UK was not in risk of being cut off said Sunak
Sunak asserted to the BBC in Washington, "I think we should have confidence in our country being a leader when it comes to AI. There is no other democratic nation that has such strength in AI outside the US when you consider the quantity of firms and the calibre of our research."
In fact, Sunak told Britain's TalkTV ahead of their encounter, "We actually talked about artificial intelligence when we were in Japan along with the president (at the G7) and I know he is well aware of the difficulties and potential that it brings."
He indicated US support for the next UK conference by saying, "But I also know the president is thinking about the threats that our countries face into the future and making sure that we work together to protect our countries against them."
