Instagram to launch its own Twitter-like platform, here’s what it may look like
Meta-owned platform Instagram has announced plans to roll out a Twitter-like platform, by the end of June, and is reportedly named as Project 92 internally.

Highlights
- The internal codename for the app is said to be Project 92 and is public name as Threads
- Meta is talking to celebrities like Oprah and the Dalai Lama about being early users.
As per recent information from several sources, Meta has been developing its own Twitter alternative for some time, which could arrive by the end of June. The internal codename for the app is said to be ‘Project 92’, and its public name could be ‘Threads' which aims to challenge Twitter in the microblogging space.
The new Meta app is going to be decentralised. It will be integrated with ActivityPub as Mastodon (a free and open-source software for running self-hosted social networking services) does. This implies that users of other apps that support ActivityPub will be able to search for your profile. Theoretically, users will also be able to take their account and followers to other apps.
Meta chief product officer Chris Cox said, “the company’s goal for the app was safety, ease of use, reliability, and making sure that creators have a stable place to build and grow their audiences.”
According to Cox, the company already has famous people like DJ Slime committed to using the app and was in talks with other well-known figures including Oprah and the Dalai Lama.
What leaked screenshots show?
As per leaks, it has been found that the feed for Project 92 resembles Twitter's. It is also rumoured that users will be able to publish up to 500 characters on a post. Additionally, the app will include links, images, and five-minute films as attachments to the postings. Moreover, just like Twitter, users in this new app will get features to engage with the audience like replies, reposts and likes.
A feed, an SSO (single sign-on) page, and replies to a post are all visible in the recently released screenshots. It appears to be what a user would have gotten by combining Twitter with Instagram.
Users will be able to sign-in with Instagram credentials
The app's single sign-on functionality is another appealing aspect. Reports have confirmed that the app will allow users to sign in with their Instagram account and password.
Additionally, the transfer of further information, including Instagram followers, handles, bio, and verification will automatically be done from Instagram. That ought to make many people interested in Meta's next product.
