Taking to Twitter, Anupam Mittal urged Sam Altman to contribute to the development of foundational artificial intelligence (AI) models for India. Mittal's invitation was in response to Altman expressing his affection for his time at OpenAI. In his tweet, Mittal stated, "Come build foundational AI models for India... the world needs more AI platforms outside of big-tech and god knows it's our time now."

 

Debating AI development in India: Altman's past remarks and challenges accepted

Earlier this year, Altman stirred a debate when he deemed India's efforts to create an artificial intelligence tool akin to ChatGPT as "hopeless." Despite this, Tech Mahindra CEO CP Gurnani accepted the challenge, emphasising the determination to strive for innovation. Altman's departure from OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, prompted co-founder Greg Brockman to announce his departure as well.

Altman's next steps amid investor backing and board discussions

While reports suggest that OpenAI's investors, including Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, are advocating for Altman's reinstatement, the former CEO has cryptically addressed the OpenAI team. Despite various discussions with the board, Altman will not be returning to OpenAI, according to sources.
