ChatGPT vs ChatGPT Plus: How are they different?

ChatGPT Plus has a lot to offer to users, from high speed to advanced language model, but how is it different from ChatGPT?

Highlights

  • ChatGPT Plus is powered by GPT-4, as compared to the earlier ChatGPT’s 3.5 version
  • The speed of ChatGPT Plus is claimed to be way better than previous free version
  • The new version of ChatGPT is available at $20 per month

OpenAI has officially launched the paid version of ChatGPT to provide users with extra benefits after Twitter users speculated on ChatGPT Pro.

On 1 February 2023, OpenAI finally launched ChatGPT Plus, which is known as the premium subscription version of ChatGPT, and includes GPT-4 or a large multimodal language model. The improved version of this AI chatbot became available in India on 17 March at $20 per month, or around Rs. 1,650, but is this bot worth the hype?

ChatGPT VS ChatGPT Plus

In comparison to the ChatGPT which runs on a language model powered by GPT-3.5 (Generative Pre-Trained Transformer), ChatGPT Plus is fine tuned from a GPT-4 model.

The language model of the ChatGPT consists of supervised learning and reinforcement learning. Through RLHF (Reinforcement learning from Human Feedback) human AI trainers provided the model with conversations in which they played both parts, the user and AI assistants, according to OpenAI.

These kinds of generative AI models are trained using a tremendous quantity of online data, including webpages, books, news stories, and more.

How ChatGPT Plus gets an edge over ChatGPT?

On the launch of this generative AI model, OpenAI expressed the ability of the Plus version to produce answers even during peak traffic times, and that too by ensuring faster responses.

  • Faster response speed

Users of the ChatGPT Plus subscription can also switch to the Turbo language model, which gives quicker responses and is speed-optimised. The company has further announced  switching of regular and turbo modes between paid users.

  • GPT-4 access

The most recent OpenAI language model, GPT-4, is also accessible with the ChatGPT Plus subscription. Currently, only ChatGPT Plus subscribers have access to it.

  • Higher usage limits

Users subscribed to ChatGPT Plus are offered higher usage limits. If users often turn to ChatGPT while working, they may face an error due to too many requests. Paid subscribers, however, do not have to worry about usage limits.

Free version to continue

With the launch of the paid version, involving additional features, the company has further confirmed to not stop the free version, stating, “We love our free users and will continue to offer free access to ChatGPT.

"ChatGPT is scary good. We are not far from dangerously strong AI," said Elon Musk, who was one of the founders of OpenAI before leaving. Sam Altman, OpenAI's chief, said on Twitter that ChatGPT had more than one million users in the first five days after it launched.

The investigation by the Swiss bank, UBS, indicates that ChatGPT is the app with the greatest rate of growth. Only two months after its introduction, the report predicts that ChatGPT had 100 million active users in January 2023. Comparatively, TikTok reached 100 million users in nine months of its inception in 2016.

The company further emphasised its need to refine and expand the chatbot based on needs and feedback.

Future plans of OpenAI

OpenAI focused on providing customers with low-cost plans, data packs for more availability, and other business plans to launch the ChatGPT API wishlist. For this purpose, the company has further announced to offer customer-oriented solutions in terms of ChatGPT, given their feedback.

“We launched ChatGPT as a research preview so we could learn more about the system’s strengths and weaknesses and gather user feedback to help us improve upon its limitations. Since then, millions of people have given us feedback, we’ve made several important updates and we’ve seen users find value across a range of professional use cases, including drafting & editing content, brainstorming ideas, programming help, and learning new topics,” mentioned the company in a February released blog post.
