In our increasingly connected world, your private information is valuable. From exploiting website breaches to hacking accounts or holding your computer ransom, cybercriminals aim to profit at your expense.

Basic security rules can keep you safe online. These five easy tasks are quick to set up and will protect you on the internet.

1. Use Password Manager Strong, unique passwords for every account are difficult, but memorising them all is challenging. Password managers generate, store, and autofill passwords, and some browsers now offer this feature. But only if you invest in a good browser; there are many that offer a free trial.

2. Applying Two-Factor Authentication Two-factor authentication adds an extra layer of security. You confirm your account with something you know (a username and password) and something you have (a code from an app or a device). Without this code, hackers can't access your account, even if they have your login information.

3. Be Safe with Security Software A security software is essential to protect your data and prevent malware. Antivirus and firewalls remain vital in 2023. Windows 10 and 11 come with built-in security tools, including antivirus, that offer strong protection, and they're enabled by default if you're not using third-party options.

4. Stay Away From Windows Admin Account To prevent malware, use a standard account on PC for everyday tasks. Only administrator accounts can install software on Windows, reducing the risk of unwanted programs. Set up your system with an admin account, but use a standard account for regular use; switch to admin only when needed for installations.

5. Backup Your Data Backing up your data is a crucial part of your security. It helps recover lost data and protect against ransomware. You can create system images, use online backup services, or simply copy key files to external drives; the method doesn't matter as long as you're doing it.
