5 countries Where UPI Payments Are Accepted

In 2021, Bhutan became the first country outside India to adopt UPI through a partnership between NIPL and the RMA, benefiting Indian tourists. It was also the second nation, after Singapore, to offer BHIM-UPI at merchant locations.

NIPL in April 2022 announced that BHIM-UPI was launched at NEOPay terminals across UAE, allowing Indian tourists to make easy payments using the system.

Last year in August, India and the UK collaborated to provide QR code-based transactions in the UK. For this, the NIPL has partnered with PayXpert, a payments solutions provider.

In February 2022, Nepal adopted UPI through Gateway Payment Services, Manam Infotech. The idea was to deploy UPI to boost interoperable real-time P2P and P2M transactions.

Recently, the CEO of NIPL has announced that it will take around three to four months for UPI to go live in France. This comes after India and France signed an agreement to use UPI for payments in Rupees at tourist attractions.
