In June 2023, Apple introduced its mixed-reality headset, the Apple Vision Pro. Months later, during the Meta Connect 2023, Meta unveiled its VR headset, the Meta Quest 3. These releases have set the stage for a fierce competition to conquer the VR market. Let's examine their differences & determine which one is worth buying.
- Apple Vision Pro is controlled with eyes, hands & voice, no external controllers needed. - Meta Quest 3 is equipped with controllers for interaction in VR/AR. It offers hand-based navigation as an option.
- Apple Vision Pro is powered by the Apple M2 system on a chip. It is supplemented by an Apple R1 co-processor. - Meta Quest 3 uses the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2, a system-on-chip manufactured by Qualcomm & based on their Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 flagship phone.
- Apple Vision Pro boasts a maximum of 16GB RAM with a storage of 64GB. - In contrast, the Meta Quest 3 provides 12GB of RAM and 128GB.
– The Apple Vision Pro features Micro-OLED displays with a stunning 4K resolution per eye. – On the other hand, the Meta Quest 3 employs LCD displays with a resolution of 2,064 x 2,208 per eye.
- The Meta Quest 3 comes with a price tag of $499. - In contrast, the Apple Vision Pro is significantly more expensive, priced at $3,500.
