Let's take a journey through Google's logo transformations over its remarkable 25-year history. From its beginnings as 'BackRub' to the iconic multi-colored 'Google' we know today, the company's logo has undergone several changes, each reflecting its evolving innovation.
– Predating the name 'Google,' the initial logo belonged to the web crawler 'BackRub.' – Reflecting its function of searching through internet backlinks.
– Shift from 'BackRub' to 'Google,' inspired by the term 'googol' (10 to the 100th power). – Signifying the engine's ability to provide vast search results.
- The new logo was designed by Ruth Kedder. - Removed the exclamation point from the original logo. - On 6 May, 2010, Google updated the logo by changing the 'o' from yellow to orange & removing drop shadowing.
- Google embraced modern minimalism in its 2013 logo update. - Eliminated shadow effects for a flatter, simpler design. - Adapted to the rise in mobile device usage with designs suitable for smaller screens.
- Introduced the custom, geometric sans-serif typeface, abandoning the previous serif font. - These changes in 2015 were the most significant & Google has maintained this logo design since. - The iconic Google Doodle remains an integral part of its branding.
